The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time position for an Environmental Scientist. ORSANCO is an interstate water pollution control agency based in Cincinnati, Ohio that monitors the water quality of the Ohio River. The position will have two primary areas of focus. First, the position will provide support to the
Commission’s Source Water Protection Programs. This role entails operating and maintaining ORSANCO’s Organics Detection System (ODS), an early warning spill detection and monitoring network. The ODS includes 16 gas chromatograph stations along the Ohio River and its major tributaries from Pittsburgh, PA to Paducah, KY. Secondly, the position entails conducting water quality sampling for nutrients, algae and other parameters at numerous locations along the Ohio River and its tributaries. The candidate will also need to compile field and laboratory results, analyze & assess data and report findings.
Starting salary – $39,500 plus a benefits package including paid vacation and sick leave, retirement savings, and other benefits.

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related field desired. Directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
General knowledge of surface water quality.
Excellent written and oral communications skills and computer proficiency. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office.
Available for overnight travel up to 30 percent of the time.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Physical ability commensurate with duties.
Familiarity / proficiency handling watercraft preferred but not required.
